General Organisation Flashcards
Name the different regions of the lower limb.
Gluteal region
Thigh
Leg
Foot

Where is the gluteal region located?
Located posterolaterally between the illiac crest and the gluteal fold
The fold of skin that define the lower limit of the buttocks is known as?
The gluteal fold

Where is the anterior thigh located?
Between the inguinal ligament and the knee joint

The posterior thigh is located between?
The gluteal fold and the knee joint

Where is the leg region located?
Between the knee and the ankle joint
Where is the foot region located?
Distal to the ankle joint

Which 3 areas of transition enable structures to pass between regions of the lower limb?
Femoral Triangle
Popliteal foss
Tarsal tunnel

Which side of the ankle is the tarsal tunnel located?
Located on the posteromedial side of the ankle

List the two main functions of the lower limb
Support the body weight
Locomotion
What enables the lower limb to maintain a standing position?
The organization of ligaments at the hip and knee joints.
And the shape of the articular surfaces (especially in the knee) facilitates “locking” of these joints into position when standing
Where is the centre of gravity located with relation to lower limb structures?
Located anteriorly from S2 vertebra
Located slightly posteriorlly from the hip joint
Located anterior to the knee and ankle joints
Located above the support base formed from the feet
Describe the movements at the hip joints
Flexion and Extension
Abduction and adduction
Medial and lateral rotation
Circumduction

Describe the movements of the knee joint
Flexion
Extension

Describe the movement of the ankle joint.
Dorsiflexion
Plantarflexion

What type of joint are the ankle and knee joints
Hinge joint
What are the bones and joints present in the gluteal region and the thigh?
Pelvic bone
Femur
Hip joint is between these two bones

What structures does the distal femur articulate with?
The tibia (Most major weight-bearing articulation)
Patella (anteriorly articulated)

What are the two bones of the leg?
Tibia (located more medially)
Fibula (Located more laterally)

What are the 3 main groups of bones
Tarsals
Metatarsals
Phalanges
