A
- congenital or acquired
- improving, worsening or stable
- caused by lesions in the CNS (what we plan to say) and/or the PNS (peripheral speech sub-system)
- caused by various diseases/conditions

what does speech require?
A
- large cortical sensorimotor space
- more motor fibres than any other human mechanical behaviour
- large number of muscles and neuromuscular events

why are MSDs important?
A
- can occur frequently
- aid diagnosis of neurological disease
- may be first symptom and have profound effect on life
- can be managed and treated
