What is Trousseau’s sign
place BP cuff on upper arm, pump up and keep inflated for 3 min. the hand will withdrawal up and spasm due to hypocalcemia
What is McBurney’s point
Rebound tenderness in RLQ with deep palpation. caused by appendicitis

referred left shoulder pain. caused by splenic injury

Inability to completely extend the leg when sitting or lying due to meningitis

bruising of the flank due to retroperitoneal bleeding. Often seen in pancreatitis.

spasm of fascial muscles elicited by tapping the facial nerve. caused by hypocalcemia.

what is the goal when dealing with a DKA/HHS patient
-drop the blood sugar 50-100 mg/dl/hr
-if dropping to fast continue the insulin drip at the same rate and add a dextrose drip to maintain 50-100 mg/dl/hr
what is the treatment of SIADH
-correct sodium levels
-correction of underlying abnormalities such as hypothyroidism or pulmonary or CNS infections
-Lasix
What is syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH)
unsuppressed release of antidiuretic hormone from the pituitiary gland or nonpituitary sources or its continued action on vasopressor receptors.
