What is a key sign of chronic pericarditis
chronic pericarditis = constrictive pericarditis
Signs:
Kussmaul’s sign - raised JVP during inspiration
Pulsus paradoxicus - drop in BP on inspiration
RHF signs - ascites, oedema, hepatomegaly
Causes - TB, idiopathic
What else causes Kussmaul’s sign
Cardiac tamponade
Constrictive pericarditis
Tamponade signs
Hypotensive
Muffled heart sounds
High JVP
= Beck’s triad
Constrictive pericarditis vs PH RHF
Pericarditis - no signs
PH RHF - Loud P2 (pulmonary valve), parasternal heave due to right ventricular hypertrophy
Dilated cardiomyopathy
Heart failure signon cxr
ABCDE
A- alveolar oedema - batwing sign
B kerley B
C cardiomegaly
D - upper lobe diversion - stag antler’s sign
E - pleural effusion
