Q

[QOD]

From the Sensor/Link FTI, what component does an IR system have that an EO system does not have? What is its purpose?

A

The IR system has a cooler.

The IR system is cryogenically cooled to reduce the detector noise temperature in order to increase the detection capability of the sensor. (p. 4-2)

Q

[QOD]

From the Fam/Nav FTI, discuss HF, VHF, and UHF radios’ frequency ranges and intended uses.

A
VHF: LOS and longer range than UHF.
108 - 137 MHz (Airband)
108 - 117.975 MHz (NAVAIDs)
118 - 136.975 MHz (AM only)
121.5 MHz (Guard)

UHF: LOS and dependent on power and altitude. Short range of up to 150 NM.

  1. 0 - 399.975 MHz, AM/FM
  2. 00 MHz (Guard)

Q

[QOD]
From the Fleet Ops FTI, discuss the purpose of each of the following entities: Alpha Bravo (AB), Alpha Papa (AP), and Alpha Foxtrot (AF).

A

AB: Composite Warfare Commander. Delegated authority for overall control of the force (one-star). They need remain cognizant of the overall tactical picture in all warfare areas. (p. 1-5)

AP: Strike Warfare Commander. The Carrier Air Group (CAG) Commander (O-6). Main focus is to conduct operations that destroy or neutralize threats. Overall offensive outlook. They are located on the carrier and is normally the Carrier Airwing Commander. (p. 1-5)

AF: Fleet Over the Horizon Track Coordinator (FOTC). They are normally the JICO as a limited duty officer onboard a CSG. They specialize in multi-tactical data link interface architecture, planning, and usage. (p 3-1)

Q

[QOD]
From the Fleet Ops FTI, discuss the purpose of each of the following entities: Alpha Whiskey (AW), Alpha Zulu (AZ), Alpha Quebec (AQ).

A

AW: AMDC and is normally the CSG Cruiser CO (O-6). Responsible for the defending the maritime force against air and ballistic missile threats. (p. 1-5)

AZ: SCC and is normally the DESRON commander (O-6). Combines the ASWC/SUWC into one role. They establish see combat guidelines and controls assigned assets to implement the sea combat plan. (p. 1-5)

AQ: IWC is normally the senior O-6 on the CSG. Responsible for shaping and assessing the information environment, achieving and maintaining information environment, maintaining information superiority, and supporting other warfare commanders. (p. 1-4)
