Permission
Get permission before shooting on any land.
Hunting parties
Be aware of other users in the area.
Obstructions
Make sure the barrel is unobstructed before firing.
Travelling
Unload all firearms before leaving the area.
Crossing Fences
Always unload any firearm, either pass it to a college or place it under the fence, muzzle first, placing it onto the ground.
Never climb a fence while carrying a fire arm.
Streams
Walk through the stream instead of jumping or crossing on rocks.
Upkeep
Clean and check your firearm regularly, use a gunsmith if in doubt.
Falling
Make sure the muzzle is pointing in a safe direction, finger away from the trigger.
Barrel & weather
It is essential that the barrel is clear from obstructions.
Carriage muzzle down will reduce water in the end of the barrel.
Misfire
Unload and check the barrel, the round and the magazine to ensure no blockages.
Semi-ready
When sighting or expecting game to present, half close the bolt in readiness to fire.Only the shooter in the front of the party should be in a state of readiness.
Safety Check
To check the safety, ensure the firearm is unloaded, point in a safe direction cock the action, apply the safety and pull the trigger. It should not fire.
Ammunition
It is essential that the correct ammunition is used for the appropriate firearm (calibre).
