There are 3 steps for proper braking technique. Step 1. Apply pressure to the brakes enough to feel a slowdown. Step 2. once your speed has been reduced to 5 mph below your “safe” speed, release the brakes. Step 3. once your speed has increased to your “safe” speed, repeat steps 1 and 2.
What are the key steering system parts?
Steering arms, steering wheel, steering wheel shaft, tie rod, drag link, steering ring knuckle, pitman arm and a steering gear box.
What are some suspension system defects?
Cracked or broken spring hangers. Spring hangers that allow movement of the axle from proper position. Missing or broken leaves in any leaf spring. Leaking shock absorbers. Spring hangers that are cracked, damaged or missing. Air suspension systems that are damaged and or leaking. loose, cracked, broken or missing frame members.
It is important to always check your tires, what are some issues you may encounter?
Too much or too little air pressure, cuts or damage, tread separation, dual tires that come in contact with each other or part of the vehicle, and mismatched sizes.
What are some exhaust system defects?
Loose, broken or missing pipes, mufflers, or tailpipes, missing brackets, clamps, bolts or nuts, exhaust system parts rubbing against fuel system parts, tires or other moving part on the vehicle.
True or false, An empty truck takes more time to break than a fully loaded one?
True- An empty truck takes longer to stop as an empty truck has less traction than a fully loaded truck.
What is the minimum tread depth for front tires?
You need at least 4/32- inch tread depth in every major groove on front tires. You need 2/32 inch on other tires. No fabric should show through the tread or sidewall.
When backing up, why is it important to use a helper?
There are blind spots that you can not see. That’s why a helper is important. The helper should stand near the back of your vehicle where you can see the helper. Before you begin backing up, work out a set of hand signals that you both understand. Agree on a signal for “stop.”
How far ahead does CDL Manual say you should look?
12 to 15 seconds ahead.
