Explain the theme: Comedy.

A

Singing in the Rain likes fun at the ridiculous nature of the movie industry - specifically how little in Hollywood is how it appears.

An example is Lina. On screen she is elegant, glamorous and refined however off screen she butches the english language and sounds much different to her on screen self.

Explain the theme: Romance.

A

Singing in the Rain is a love story between Don and Kathy that adheres pretty closely to the conventions of the genre.
Don, and Kathy meet when he jumps into her car. Then a misunderstanding keeps them apart. Once the misunderstanding is laughed off, they begin to fall head over heels for one another.

A

Everybody in Singing in the Rain is obsessed with their reputation.
Don wants to be respected as a ‘real’ actor and he wants Kathy to respect him.
Kathy wants Don to respect her, and she wants to stop popping out of cakes for a living.
Lina wants to be adored, and the studio wants to protect her from looking bad.
All the main characters will lie if they think they will gain repect and/or boost their reputations.
