At what level of CRP Antibiotics are prescribed?

A

If the CRP > 50 mg/L antibiotics should be prescribed because CRP > 50 suggests bacterial infection, while CRP between 10-40 could be viral or bacterial infection.

Guidelines suggest that antibiotics should not be used when the CRP is < 20 mg/L,

It gets higher when you have inflammation or an infection

A

- obesity
- lack of exercise
- cigarette smoking
- diabetes.

Certain medicines can cause your CRP levels to be lower than normal. These include:

- aspirin
- steroids.

A

The normal C-reactive protein (CRP) is :
< 1.0 mg/dL or < 10.0 mg/L (SI units)

(< 3 mg/L for high-sensitivity CRP [hs-CRP]).

Cardiac risks associated with C-reactive protein levels are as follows :
Low: < 1.0 mg/dL
Average: 1.0-3.0 mg/dL
High: >3.0 mg/dL
