General Information For GP Flashcards
At what level of CRP Antibiotics are prescribed?
If the CRP > 50 mg/L antibiotics should be prescribed because CRP > 50 suggests bacterial infection, while CRP between 10-40 could be viral or bacterial infection.
Guidelines suggest that antibiotics should not be used when the CRP is < 20 mg/L,
What’s CRP ? When it gets elevated?
CRP is a protein made by the liver and sent into the bloodstream.
It gets higher when you have inflammation or an infection
What might affect my CRP test results? To be higher and lower?
A number of things may cause your CRP levels to be slightly higher than normal. These include:
- obesity
- lack of exercise
- cigarette smoking
- diabetes.
Certain medicines can cause your CRP levels to be lower than normal. These include:
- (NSAIDs)
- aspirin
- steroids.
What’s the normal Al CRP level and what’s its grading?
The normal C-reactive protein (CRP) is :
< 1.0 mg/dL or < 10.0 mg/L (SI units)
(< 3 mg/L for high-sensitivity CRP [hs-CRP]).
Cardiac risks associated with C-reactive protein levels are as follows :
Low: < 1.0 mg/dL
Average: 1.0-3.0 mg/dL
High: >3.0 mg/dL
What is the maximum dose/times of paracetamol in 24 hours?
Maximum is 8 tablets of 500mg 4 times a day , 4 hours apart is the maximum can be taken ( don’t practice paracetamol more than 3 times a ad day )
What’s the normal body mass index for adults?
18.5-24.9 kg/m2
