Who was the first to be accused?
Elizabeth wright. She was an old lady with 1 leg, and was long suspected of being a witch. She was searched by 4 search women, and then watched for several days and nights.
Who was the second which to be accused and why were they so significant?
Rebecca West. She was named by Clark. She also admitted to suckling imps. However, for naming other witches she was granted an acquittal.
What was the significance of John Lowes?
He was an 80-year-old clergyman. He defended an accused witch. He was ILLEGALLY subjected to the swimming test, to which he then confessed to sinking a ship off of the Port of Harwich, as well as killing cattle.
What were the fees that they charged?
Lucrative. For example in Bury St Edmunds they charged £130 for their service.
When did people start to become suspicious?
In 1547. Especially after the writing of John Gaule.
What did Hopkins call himself?
Witchfinder general.
