General Arrangement Plan
General Arrangement Plan
The GA Plan gives the buyer an outline of the ship’s layout and acts as a general plan for
the shipyard and the ship. It also shows a profile view, normally with only one side shown.
The Load Water Line is shown and the Forward and Aft Perpendiculars. Normally the first
frame is marked at the aft perpendicular as 0 and each frame forward of this is numbered
with positive numbers and each abaft with negative numbers. Below the profile image will
be a set of deck plans showing each deck from the top down. The plan shows the
following:
• Boat Name and Yard number,
• Profile View,
• Deck Plan, deck on deck,
• General layout of cabins and furniture,
• Scale, frames, and general dimensions,
• Main Particulars: Length, Breadth, Draught, etc.
• Stairways, escapes, bulkheads, engine layout, tanks, doors, escape hatches, etc

Must be displayed in the following locations:
• Bridge
• Engine Control Room
• Crew Accommodation
• Mess Rooms.
It is a GA with all firefighting equipment marked on it including:
• Fire Zones,
• Fire Mains and Hydrants,
• Fixed Extinguishing Systems,
• Portable Fire appliances,
• Fireman’s outfits and control lockers,
• All through hull fittings and pumping arrangements,
• All LSA and escape routes, etc.
