4 Stages of Analgesia

A
  1. Initial analgesia (loss of pain).
  2. Excitement/delirium, with loss of consciousness
    (hypnosis) , but with heightened reflexes. QUICK!
  3. Surgical anaesthesia, with all reflexes disappearing
    as stage deepens. Respirator may be used with
    endotracheal tube.
  4. Final stage of medullary paralysis, with respiratory
    failure and death. This is why patient monitoring is
    crucial
