General Anaesthetics Flashcards
1
Q
Analgesia
A
Loss of pain
2
Q
General anaesthetics have relatively low therapeutic indices
A
which necessitates
the monitoring of patients when they are used.
3
Q
4 Stages of Analgesia
A
- Initial analgesia (loss of pain).
- Excitement/delirium, with loss of consciousness
(hypnosis) , but with heightened reflexes. QUICK! - Surgical anaesthesia, with all reflexes disappearing
as stage deepens. Respirator may be used with
endotracheal tube. - Final stage of medullary paralysis, with respiratory
failure and death. This is why patient monitoring is
crucial
4
Q
GAs are usually administed
A
- IV
2. Inhalation
5
Q
Depolarising Muscle Relaxants:
A
these are nACh and mACh
receptor agonists at the neuromuscular junctions.
–> Blocks muscle for temp. paralysis (3-5min)
6
Q
Nondepolarising Muscle Relaxants:
A
these are competitive
ACh receptor antagonists
