What does EMD stand for?

EMD defintion
EMD is used to describe individuals who may behave in an unexpected, extreme or challenging manner as a result of a mental health problem or emotional distress
EMD indicators
Putting themselves in danger hearing voices/ seeing things engaging in threatening behaviour towards others asking for help with mental health unresponsive to others
Types of subject behaviour
1 - compliant 2 - verbal resistance and gestures 3 - passive resistance 4 - active resistance 5 - aggressive resistance 6 - serious or aggravated resistance
What does tactical option mean?
any course of action or inaction that an individual may chose in response to a situation
Example of passive resistance
individual sits/ stands/ lies still and will not move
Example of active resistance
individual pushed police officer or pulls away from police officer
What are the tactical options available to a police officer
proper/ ready stance approaching/ withdrawing communication appropriate PPE exercising powers gathering evidence issuing of orders observation baton/ hand cuff/ PAVA

size, gender, age, strength, skill level, training, support, PPE, fear

size, gender, age, strength, skill level, alcohol, drugs, mental health
