Acute dystonia?
Involuntary upgazing of the eyes
Spasms of muscles (neck, shoulder, back which causes trunk to arch forward)
Facial grimacing
Laryngeal spasms
(Can type acute dystonia into MC to get medication)
Tardive Dyskinesia?
repetitive movements like lip sucking, lip smacking and chewing
Protruding and rolling of the tongue
Akathisia?
Restless legs
Can’t stand still
Pseudoparkinsonism?
Stooped posture Lack of arm swing Shuffling gait Bradykinesia Rigidity Resting Tremor
Hypoglycaemia in an unconscious patient in hospital?
give 75ml (15g) of IV Glucose 20%
better than IM if the patient is anticoagulated and faster route if in hospital
Hartmann’s fluid make up
131mmol of Na+ 5mmol of K+ 29mmol of Bicarbonate 111mmol of Cl- 0g of glucose
or just remember - a lot of Na+ and Cl- with a dash of K+ and bicarbonate as a bonus
0.9% saline fluid make up
150mmol of Na+
150mmol of Cl-
0.3% KCL make up
40mmol of K+
40mmol if Cl-
5% Glucose make up
50grams/litre
For a 70kg how much fluid do they need for maintenance?
70mmol Na+ 70mmol Cl- 70mmol K+ 50-100gram Glucose 2L of water
What does w/v mean?
e. g. 5% Glucose
0. 25% Hydrocortisone
w/v = grams in 100ml
5% = 5 grams in 100ml (50grams/litre)
0.25grams (250mg) in 100 ml (or 2.5mg/ml)
Drugs to stop with Methotrexate
NSAIDs (Used with caution)
Trimethoprim (complete contraindication!)
NB: must stop methotrexate in active infection
Calcium channel blockers SE
Peripheral oedema and flushing
Paracetamol and Co-codamol prescriptions?
make sure they don’t exceed 4g of Paracetamol cumulatively
Bisoprolol and Verapamil
Can’t be prescribed togehter - check which one should be stopped if signs of other side effects e.g. oedema or if there is a drug error
