Overcard River giving unique straights

Sizing Scheme and value threshold?

Overall bf and how does this change by the nature of the rivered straight

A

66/shove

66 - Anything which chops with the strongest hand they will normally have e.g. AJ on J925K or KQ on JT25Q

Shove - Top 2, but is very context dependent. When one unique straight gets there, thresh is often set+ and very little shoving occurs

On runouts where AK gets there top 2 is thresh

Around 70%-

On rivers where only a few straight get there 60% of range may go through 66 and 10% thouggh shove

On rivers where lots of unique straights complete, may become as much as half and half

What effects the previous 2 things?
What is going on with nut hands?
A

Size = 66%

BF and Value range is strongly effected by whether the bb turns one or 2 straight. In particular JTQ lowers bf to 43% and sees far less top pair and 2 pair betting

80% of top pair on most overcards turns

On A turns A89 tend to be mainly checked
On other turn Top pair 4 and 5 kickers tend to mix 50%

PP beneath top pair is pure bet

IP Value Region?
What makes good bluffs as IP

A

Value

• In Theory, any second pair should be good if opponent is

	1. Betting almost all top pair
	2. Blocking almost all second pair

* In practice, I would think sptk + is probably a more robust strategy
* That being said, one of the major drivers of not betting second pair is the danger of x raise and x raise bluff which most people will not do enough

Bluff

• Good cards for bluffing
	○ Blocking the straight in any way
	○ Blocking missed fd in any way

Value

• Pot
	○ PP below top pair +
	○ Almost all top pair
§ In practice, working more top pair into block to deal with raises is probably a good idea
• Block
	○ Flopped second pair+
	○ Strong value blocking bluff catchers e.g. top 2 or KQ on k high blocking QQ

* Some 2 pair with top and non second pair is checked but is infrequent play
* All 2 pair not blocking top and second pair is in x raise

Check Calling

	• Good check calling hands:
		○ Low cards
		○ Blocking missed fd
		○ Some stronger ace high should be mixed 50/50
		○ Ace
• Bad cards:
	○ High cards like kx qx tend to make pairs favour fold
