Q

In a debate, why isn’t it fair to take God out of the equation?

Q

What are the order of events in Genesis 1?

A
Day 1 - earth, space, time, light
Day 2 - atmosphere
Day 3 - land, seas, plants
Day 4 - sun, moon, stars
Day 5 - fish, birds
Day 6 - man, animals
20
Q

How did Charles spurgeon define science?

A

The method by which man tries to conceal his ignorance.

21
Q

In the gap theory, where is the gap?

A

first two verses of Genesis 1

22
Q

What is theistic evolution?

A

God directed the evolutionary process or just set it up and let it run

23
Q

What is progressive creation?

A
  • Big Bang
  • days of creation overlapping periods of millions of years
  • Over millions of years, God created new species as others kept going extinct.
  • Death, bloodshed, and disease existed before Adam and Eve.
  • Manlike creatures that looked and behaved much like us (and painted on cave walls) existed before Adam and Eve but did not have a spirit that was made in the image of God, and thus had no hope of salvation.
  • The Genesis Flood was a local event.
24
Q

How could a loving God allow suffering?

A

God created a perfect world. No death or suffering

Death and suffering is a result of our sin

The penalty for sin is death

Thus, there is no reason that God should allow us to live in the first place.

25
Q

How do you refute animal death before sin?

A

1 - questions Gods character. everything ‘very good’. So animal death good?

2 - God did curse all animals. Gen 3:14.

Ultimately, they believe science proven long ages. Attack that.

26
Q

What is science?

A
  1. A word
  2. Study of everything God made
  3. Science and faith shouldn’t be in conflict. If are, what not interpreting correctly?
27
Q

How prove dating methods are faith based?

A
  1. Faith - something can’t prove?
  2. Dating - Rates of decay today
  3. Assuming - same rate of decay for millions of years in past….date objects
  4. Prove to me - rate of decay constant
  5. Can’t - therefore, faith based
  6. Problem - people view as fact
28
Q

What is another name for the gap theory?

A

Ruin reconstruction theory

29
Q

Describe the gap theory

A
  1. Gap of time between gen 1:1 and gen 1:2
  2. God created earth with animals and soulless humans.
  3. They died in massive flood
  4. Flood created rock layers, fossils
  5. God then created as described in bible
  6. Belief in long ages, but not evolution. Hold to 6 days
30
Q

Why do I not believe in gap theory?

A

It’s a crazy hack attempt to fit millions of years into bible, and hold true to a literal view of scripture

31
Q

How respond to a gap theorist?

A

Refute millions of years

32
Q

What’s another name for the day age theory?

A

Progressive creation

33
Q

Refute a local flood

A
  1. Gen 7:17-24 - lots of earth quotes

2. God liar - lots of local floods

34
Q

What’s the formula for evolution

A

Natural selection
Mutations
Pixie dust of time

35
Q

What is natural selection

A

Variation within a kind

36
Q

What is the order of events for The Big Bang?

A
Big Bang
Stars
Sun
Earth -molten
Earth - oceans
37
Q

What is the order of events for the Bible vs Big Bang.

A
Water covered earth (first)
Dry land; plants
Sun moon and stars
Sea; flying creatures
Animals and land
Big Bang
Stars
Sun
Molten earth
Oceans. (Last)
38
Q

What is natural selection?

A

God ordained process allowing organisms to survive in a post-fall world. Allows variations within a ‘kind’ and preserves by ability within the ‘kind’.

39
Q

Name some characteristics of natural selection…

A
  • observable
  • organisms with certain characteristics survive better in an environment.
  • loss of info in DNA. Genetic info decreases.
40
Q

Name some characteristics of evolution…

A
  • unobservable
  • long periods of time
  • single cells turned into all organisms we have today
  • genetic info must increase
41
Q

Describe how the ‘evolution tree’ differs from the ‘creation tree’…

A
  • evolution is 1 tree.

- creation tree is a forest. 1 tree for each kind. Natural selection and variation within each kind

42
Q

3 questions to ask an evolutionist…

A
  • how did DNA for first creature come into existence ?
  • how did DNA info get changed and augmented?
  • where is the transitional fossil evidence?
43
Q

Explain why antibiotic resistance bacteria is not evolution…..

A
  • it’s still bacteria
  • loss of information. Mutation removed ability to produce an enzyme the antibiotics would use to kill it. If antibiotics are removed, it could be selected against.
44
Q

What is a great biblical proof that Adam was a real person, not an allegory, fable, or a myth?

A

Inclusion in genealogies, and statement of his age later in the Bible.

45
Q

List 2 assumptions made with dating methods

A
  • constant rate of decay

- known starting points for daughter elements

46
Q

Give 2 dating method examples that disprove an old earth

A

Helium still remaining in zircon crystals. It should be gone

Carbon existing in what is thought to be long dead organisms. It should be gone
