General Flashcards
Definition of sepsis
life-threatening organ dysfunction due to a dysregulated host response to infection
SIRS + confirmed or presumed infections
Definition septic shock
a subset of sepsis in which underlying circulatory and cellular/metabolic abnormalities are profound enough to substantially increase mortality.
Septic shock clinical criteria: Sepsis and (despite adequate volume resuscitation) both of:
Persistent hypotension requiring vasopressors to maintain MAP greater than or equal to 65 mm Hg, and
Lactate greater than or equal to 2 mmol/L
Sepsis 6
Deliver high-flow oxygen.
Take blood cultures.
Administer empiric intravenous antibiotics.
Measure serum lactate and send full blood count.
Start intravenous fluid resuscitation.
Commence accurate urine output measurement.
SIRS criteria
2 or more of:
T >38 C or 90/min
RR >20/min or PaCO2 12 or >10% immature band forms
