General Flashcards
What is the function of the BRCA genes?
Tumor suppressor genes. They enable homologous recombination following dsDNA breaks.
Which BRCA type is more associated with breast / ovarian? Which gives higher risks of prostate, pancreas, melanoma, GB / cholangio, stomach?
- BRCA 1
2. BRCA 2
What is the lifetime risk of developing breast cancer for a woman with a BRCA mutation?
50-75%
What is the risk of developing ovarian cancer for BRCA1?
30-40%
How much can prophylactic oophorectomy reduce risk of ovarian CA in BRCA?
~85%
How much can prophylactic mastectomy reduce risk of breast cancer for high risk patients?
> 90%
When do most recurrence occur for triple negative breast cancer?
Within 2-5 years of diagnosis
When should FISH be sent for Her2 analysis?
Send on all IHC 2+ tumors
What are the more favorable molecular subtypes of breast cancer?
Luminal A or Luminal B (ER/PR positive)
What are the poor risk molecular subtypes of breast cancer?
HER 2 enriched (ER/PR negative)
Basal-like / triple negative
ECOG 1
Restricted from strenuous physical activity. Able to perform light work.
ECOG 2
Capable of ALL self care but no work. Up and about > 50% of waking hours.
ECOG 3
Capable of only limited self care. Confined to bed or chair > 50% of waking hours.
ECOG 4
Completely disabled. No self care. Totally confined to bed or chair.
