Q

Definition of Homeostasis?

A

Homeostasis is the ability of the body to maintain balance or
return to its balance after illness, stress or injury. Factors that need to be controlled are
Temperature, pH, Glucose levels, Water and salt levels (osmoregulation), Calcium levels

9
Q

What is the function of the plasma membrane?

A

Separates contents of the cell from
outside environment + regulates what enters/ exits the cell. Protects integrity of the cell interior by allowing only selected substances into the cell+ keeping other substances out (protection).

Q

. Name three principles of the CODE OF ETHICS that students must follow while training?

A

They
must practice only on family and friends, Acceptance and observation of this Code of Ethics
is a condition of membership, Student members must take guidance from their tutors regarding contra-indications for reflexology treatment. A member who is qualified to
practise another therapy in addition reflexology may do so only with the prior agreement of the school tutor + client, and must make it clear to the client that secondary therapy is not part of the reflexology treatment, Medical diagnoses must not be made or implied, no unqualified advice should be given

Q

Explain the concept of treatment plan?

A

Treatment plan means the way you as a therapist deal with your patient’s condition, your focus. Part of the treatment plan is to take a detailed medical history, medications, stress level of the patient, diet, exercise, their goals. Treatment plans are extra important in determining how many
treatments + how often your client should come back to achieve some of the changes
they’re hoping to get from Reflexology Treatments + if it possible to achieve those changes.

Q

What is stress?

A

Stress is primarily a physical response triggered by an emotional or
environmental factor which causes their body to switch to a flight and flight more for
prolonged period of time which is detrimental to our health. When stressed, the body switches to ‘fight or flight’ mode, releasing a complex mix of hormones
and chemicals such as adrenaline, cortisol to prepare the body for physical action. Stress is
good to a certain extent. The issue is if our body goes into a state of stress in
inappropriate situations and for prolonged period of times. Stress is the body’s way of
responding to demand. It can be caused by both good and bad experiences.
When people feel stressed by something, their bodies react by
releasing chemicals into the blood. These chemicals give people more energy/strength, which can be a good thing if their stress is caused by physical danger. But this can be a bad thing, if their stress a response to something emotional + there is no outlet for this

17
Q

How can reflexology help stressed people?

A

We can work the nervous system reflex point of the person (Especially the autonomous nervous system), the treatment will help with the
relaxation of that person, it is grounding because you work the feet of the person

18
Q

By what process does water pass in - and out of a cell ?

A

osmosis

19
Q

Within each cell there are several ‘organelles: List three of these and the function of each one.

A

Nucleus: DNA Storage: Room where the blueprints are kept;
Mitochondria: Energy production, powerhouse of the cell; Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum: Lipid production, Detoxification;
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum: Protein production; in particular for export out of the cell;
Golgi apparatus:Protein modification and export Shipping department; Lysosome: Protein destruction, Recycling and security

20
Q

Where would you find mitochondria and what do they do?

A

Mitochondria are found in the cytoplasm of cells. The primary function of which is to generate large quantities of energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate

21
Q

5) Cells of a similar structure and function combine to form…?

A

Tissue

22
Q

A cell that fights disease is called?

A

Lymphocytes: These small white blood cells play a large role in defending the body against disease

23
Q

What is the difference between the meanings of the words ANATOMY and PHYSIOLOGY?

A

Anatomy is the structure of organs and systems, Physiology is the function

24
Q

Explain the definition of HOLISTIC

A

Treat the whole body; physical, emotional, mental etc

25
Q

33) What would be your understanding of the word “HOMEOSTASIS”.

A

The body being in balance

26
Q

34) Give three methods of maintaining adequate hygiene in your practice when working with clients.

A

Hand washing, clean towels for each client, wipes for the client’s feet, keep nails short

28
Q

What would you consider the advantages of being a member of a professional institution?

A

Most institutions have an assessment process that applicants must pass before they are granted membership. This means that, once you have demonstrated that you have the requisite experience, qualifications and skills, you may join the institution and add the appropriate letters to your CV and business card. Membership shows that you have reached a certain level of expertise in your profession, and adds to your credibility. It also shows that you are serious about your career and professional development. It will also support your practice and support you in case of claims
