Brief: below V1 emergency
Any emergency below V1 we will carry out a standard company RTO.
You (Captain) will call stop, apply idle thrust, max reverse and max braking. I will monitor your actions.
When we stop you will apply the park brake and inform the cabin.
I will inform ATC.
We will identify the problem and take action as required.
Brief: above V1 emergency
After V1 we will continue the take off. We will maintain runway heading/follow special procedure and take action as required.
Acceleration altitude is XXXX.
MSA is XXXX.
Once checklists are complete we will make a xxxxxxxx approach.
Landing weight will be approx XX.Xt if we return immediately.
Flight instrument check
- Source select switches checked
- Clock “time” on “date”
- FMS NAV source GNSS
- PFD erect, No flags, FDs on, MAN TO green, (CLB) IAS ALT (NAV) armed, “altitude”, V1 XXX, V2 XXX, airspeed below 40.
QNH XXXX gives XXXX cross check STBY ALT and airport elevation. - ND XXXdeg, RMI XXXdeg, STBY XXXdeg, no flags
- STBY AH erect, STBY ASI zero.
- SEI on
- MFDU checked
- FMS set
- Radios set, aids as briefed
Cockpit to ground
For pushback bay
Pushback and start complete
Capt: Start complete, tow switch off, disconnect phones.
Gnd: Tow switch set to OFF, closing access panel
Cockpit to ground
For taxi out bay
Once engines started
Capt: “start complete, disconnect phones”
Gnd: “Disconnecting phones”
Capt: - extends taxi light (mid position)
Gnd: - walks clear of aircraft and gives thumbs up signal
Capt: “Dispatch clearance sighted”
FO: “checked”
What happens when FO requests taxi clearance?
Captain turns taxi light ON.
After start flows - Captain
Captain:
1: Selects start PB off
2: Extends landing lights (mid position)
3: Sets stab trim
Engine start sequence
- Check N2 Indication present on MFDU and SEI
- Check N1 Indication present on MFDU and SEI
- Check Oil Pressure Indication
- At 5% N1 Open Fuel Lever - PS Start Stopwatch (Note: When engine temperature is cold, only positive
N1 indication is required. Refer AOM system operations for further information) - Check Fuel Flow Indication
- Monitor Light Up TGT
- After Engine Stabilises Check N2 47.9% Minimum
- Reset Stopwatches
- Repeat for ENG #1

When cleared to pushback
Capt: “ready to release brakes; cleared to pushback”
Gnd: Tow switch set ON; Set brakes OFF
Capt “Brakes OFF”
Gnd: “Clear to start both engines”

When pushback complete
Ready for brakes
GND: “pushback complete, park brakes”
Capt: “brakes parked”

Before start scan flow
- Captain selects START PUSHBUTTON ON (and IGN CONT 1 or 2 if applicable)
- Captain selects BEACON ON
- FO selects 4 FUEL PUMPS ON (6 if fuel in Centre Tank)
- FO selects WINDOW and PROBE HEAT ON
Flight plan check
- PF Select F-PLN page 1
- PNF refers to Plan Summary on Flight Plan
- PNF reads out planned route and PF verifies on FMS
- PF Select PROG page,
- PNF reads out total distance and cruise altitude
- PF verifies on FMS
- PF Select INIT page A (or MODE page)
- Write/insert Cost Index 20
- Check Projected Fuel Burn
Airways clearance actions
- FO will request airways clearance
- Captain will note clearance on ATC section of Flight Plan
- FO will note clearance at top of TOLD Card
- Captain sets altitude and FO crosschecks
- Captain sets Transponder code and FO crosschecks
What does the PF do before or whilst they conduct the take off briefing
- When the PF conducts the brief they shall set the following items before, or as they brief:
- TOGA or FLEX setting at the TRP
- NAV and PROF as required at the FMP
NOTE: When the PF briefs the normal departure they will brief the SID chart title and date, then brief the SID from the FMS.
The PNF will crosscheck against the SID chart. (Refer AOM
SUPP 7.5.4)
- NOTE: When the CTWOT format is finished (OPPM 7.2.3.5)
the PF will conduct the Flight Instrument Check
