GENERAL Flashcards
Key points when multiplying decimals
-Covert into whole numbers and long multiplication
-Remember to add up the decimal points and take them off at the end
Key points when deciding dividing decimals
-Divisor must be a whole number
-Use long division process
-Don’t forget to add the .0’s at the end
Adding and Subtracting fractions
Both bottom numbers in the fraction must be the same before you can add or subtract.
Multiplying fractions
Multiply top numbers and multiply bottom numbers. Use improper fractions or simplify to get final answer
Dividing fractions
Turn the second fraction upside down and then use multiplication method
How do you turn a whole number into a fraction?
Put it 1/whole number
Fractions to percentages
-Convert bottom number to 100 and repeat process to top number
-More complicated use long division process to get decimal and multiply by 100
Degrees Celsius into Fahrenheit
Multiply by 1.8 and add 32
Degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius
Take away 32 and Divide by 2 then add 10% of final value (rough estimate)
Mean, median and mode
Mean is average of all numbers (total divide amount)
Median is middle of all numbers
Mode is most common
Key points when simplifying algebra
-Simplify only the same groups
-number and letter can be times and added together (3a * 3b = 9ab)
-simplify in stages so you can keep track
-any negative or positive values stick with that group
Key points when expanding brackets
-individually multiply the numbers out from left to right
-add together/simplify answer
How would you factorise this?
m(p+q)-n(p+q)
Group the other together and then the inner. (m-n)(p+q)
When factorising which letters should go into the first bracket?
The letters that show on all the formula
What is Log100 and why
Log 100 = 2
If no base is given it’s assumed to be a 10
Three log rules
Log A^n = Nlog x A
Log(AB) = LogA + LogB
Log (A/B) = logA - LogB
What is Sin 90
Sine 90 = 1
What is sin 30
0.5
What is 30 cos?
0.86
What is 90 cos
0
What is log of a five figure number?
4
What is characteristic of log 0.698
-1
How to convert decimal to octal?
Use table to convert decimal to binary.
Convert Binary to Octal (4, 2, 1)
What is formula for litres to imperial gallons?
Divide by 4.54
How would you find out gradient of an equation (I.e 2y + 4x = 15)
Rearrange formula into y = mx + c
(M is gradient and C is y intercept)
Formula for gradient
Rise over run
How many mils is there in a whole circle?
6400 mils
How would you work out mils with a given angle?
Proportionally from 360:6400
