Most people with type one diabetes should be treated with
Basal plus rapid acting before breakfast, lunch and dinner
Combination of intermediate plus short acting
Generally, the starting insulin dose is based on weight but doses ranging from .4 to .5 units per kilogram per day total insulin with higher amounts during puberty.
