General Flashcards
What is Ethernet Pin Pattern?
OW,O,GW,B,BW,G, Br,BrW
What is CWDM?
Course Wavelength Division Multiplexing
What is DWDM?
Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing
What is ATS?
What does it do?
Automatic Transfer Switch
Automatically Switches to backup power when primary goes out.
What is Reed-Solomon?
Forward Error Correction
Reed-Soloman Codes are a group of error-correcting codes that were introduced by Irving S. Reed and Gustave Solomon in 1960
What is a Serial Connection?
A Physical Connection
Used to console into equipment for configuration.
What is NAT?
Network Address Translation
It’s a way to map multiple local private addresses to a public one before transferring the information
What is DFB laser?
Distributed Feedback Laser
Tyoe of laser diode, quantum cascade laser or optical fiber laser, where the active region of the device contains a periodically structured element or diffraction grating, that cause reflection back into the cavity.
What is a Fabry Perot Laser?
(Fabri pero)
Most common type of laser, has a laser resonater that is made up of two mirrors
Differance between DFB laser and a Fabry Perot laser?
Fabry Perot laser can go through a mux and Distributed Feedback Laser can not.
Difference between multimode and single mode fiber?
Single-mode fiber is optical fiber designed to carry only a single mode of light
Multi-mode fiber is type of optical fiber designed to carry multiple light rays or modes simultaneously, mostly used for communication over short distances and up to rates of 100 Gbit/s
What is DSG?
DOCSIS Set-top Gateway
Used to deliver out-of-band data to CPE (Customer Premise Equipment)
Difference between CAT5 and CAT6?
CAT6 have stricter performance specifications and significant higher data transfer speeds at greater distances. They are more tightly wound than Cat5 cables, and the cable conductors and cable sheath are thicker. CAT6 designed for operating frequencies up to 250 MHz, compared to 100 Mhz for CAT5e
What is CMTS?
Cable Modem Termination System
is a piece of equipment, typically located in a cable company’s headend or hubsite, which is used to provide high speed data services, such as cable Internet or Voice over Internet Protocol, to cable subscribers
What is laser?
Light amplifier by stimulated emissions of radiation
