Gene Regulation Flashcards
1
Q
What is euchromatin
A
It is central, open and readily transcribed
2
Q
What is heterochromatin
A
It is peripheral, closed and not transcribed
3
Q
What histones do DNA wrap around
A
Octomer - H2a and H2b heterodimer and a H3,H4 tetramer
with H1 as a linker
4
Q
What is the mechanism of splicing
A
- GU is the splice donor site and U1 binds here
- A is a branch site and the binding location of U2
- U4,5 and 6 will then bind to the donor splice site where U5 pulls everything together at the acceptor splice site (AG)
- Will then bring together branch and donor splice site and the cleavage of the intron is complete
5
Q
What is the methylation and acetylation profile of euchromatin
A
Low Methylation and high acetylation
