Gene Expression Flashcards
Transcription
Synthesis of an RNA molecule from a DNA template.
Translation
Process by which the sequence of bases of an mRNA is converted into the sequence of amino acids of a protien.
mRNA
Carries the genetic information needed to make protiens copied from the DNA and taken from the nuceleus to the ribosome in the cytoplasm.
tRNA
A biology molecule that act as temporary carriers of amino acids, match the codon to the anticodon nucelotides.
Ribosome
A particle consisting of RNA and associated protiens found in large numbers in the cytoplasm and builds protiens.
Peptide Bond
A chemical bond that is formed between amino acid in the process of building protiens.
Codon
A group of three nucleotide bases in mRNA that specify a particular amino acid to be incorporated into a protien.
Protien folding
The** process by which a protien chain is transformed into its native three-dimensional structure **allowing the protien to function correctly.
Mutation
Change in the genetic material of a cell.
DNA replication
The process by which a cell duplicates its DNA in order to prepare for division.
