Womens position in society? caused by? (2) (ownership of and the development of?)
What kind of relationship? between which two groups? translated where?
How does capitalism give men power over women? how? (what do they want to pass? n the form of?
Therefore what is important to men about their offspring?
What does the idea of the nuclear family restrict? what does it enforce? what does this protect?

A

Women’s subordinate positions in society are due to ownership of private property and the development of the nuclear family
Exploiter-exploited relationship between the bourgeoisie and proletariat is translated into the home
Capitalism gives men control over women as they want to pass on private property in the form of inheritance. Therefore, it is important that their heirs are legitimate offspring
The idea of the nuclear family restricts the sexuality of women and enforces monogamy (practice of marrying) to protect male property rights

Women are preconditioned to? what kind of hierarchy?
What is the family destined to teach?
Therefore what are kids socialised into? as being?
What is normalised?

A

Women are preconditioned to accept their position in a capitalist hierarchy
The family is designed to teach passivity, not rebellion, therefore they socialise children into accepting traditional gender roles as being ‘natural’ as a result having different responsibilities for different roles is normalised.

Women are?
What does this mean?
What does this prevent? why?
A

Women are the ‘takers of shit’ – this means that men vent their frustrations at them not at their employers – this helps to prevent a revolution as workers accept the explotation and do not revolt

Women are a part of?
What does this mean?
What are women prepared to do? why?
A

Women are a cheap ‘reserve army of labour’ brought in during economic booms but thrown out during slumps. Women are often not members of trade unions and are prepared to work for less money as their wage could be a second income
