The Human Capital Theory
Refers to the skills and knowledge developed through education and training
As men and women have different roles e.g. men are more work orientated and women more home makers - the pay gap is justifiable as men have more human capital as they are more focused on the labour market.
Personal income depends on a person’s investment in developing human capital.
Women are less committed to paid work and are more likely to take career breaks or opt for part time work in order to continue to take care of the family.
Women priorise their role as a homemaker, fitting their maternal instincts
Women develop less human capital than men (less skills, compentency and experience leads to lower pay)
