Continuity or Stages
Continuity - Development is a gradual, continuous process.
Stages - Development occurs in a series of distinct stages.
Stability or Change
Stability - Believe traits are stable from birth.
Change - Peronailities are gradually shaped and they can change over time.
Adolescence
Beginning of sexual maturity to independent adulthood.
Puberty
Person becomes capable of reproduction.
X chromosome
Sex chromosome found in both men and women.
Y chromosome
Sex chromosome found only in males.
Testosterone
Stimulates the growth of male sex organs, male sex characteristics during puberty.
Primary Sexual Characteristics
Body structures that make sexual reproduction possible.
Secondary Sexual Characteristics
Non-reproductive sexual characteristics.
Sexual Orientation
Sexual attraction toward members of either one’s own sex (homosexual) or the other sex (heterosexual).
Intersex
Condition where one has a mixture of male and female reproductive structures.
Emerging Adulthood
-Phase of the life span between adolescence and adulthood
