Implications of gender bias
Gender biased research may create misleading assumptions about female. It also fails to challenge negative stereotypes and validate discriminatory practices. Studies may provide a scientific justification to deny women opportunities within the workplace or in wider society. Tavris argues that it becomes normal for women to feel abnormal. Limitation because it shows that gender bias just doesn’t have methodological problems but also has damaging consequences which may affect women.
Sexism within the research process
Lack of women in senior research level means that female concerns may not be reflected in the research. Males are more likely to have work published and studies which find evidence of gender differences. Lab exp may further disadvantage women as male researcher has power to label them unreasonably because they are unable to complete complex tasks. (Nicolson). Limitation because Denmark say that this results in Institutional sexism that creates bias.
