What is the difference between sex and gender?
Sex: a person’s biological sex. The anatomy of an individual’s reproductive system, and secondary sex characteristics.
Gender: social roles based on the sex of the person or personal identification of one’s own gender based on an internal awareness.
What culturally constructs gender?
Gender is culturally constructed by:
The symbols associated with gender.
Examples: pink and blue clothing, ‘the left’
The classifications of what is inherently male or female.
Some cultures minimize these; others emphasize them
The relative values of gender.
Some cultures see genders as equals; others value one over the other ex. primogeniture

Define, Primogeniture
Primogeniture: the right of the firstborn legitimate son to inherit his parent’s entire or main estate, in preference of a child other than the eldest male, a daughter, illegitimate child or a collateral relative.

Define, toxic masculinity
-Toxic Masculinity: refers to traditional cultural masculine norms that can be harmful to men, women, and society overall
- is a set of certain male behaviors associated with harm to society and men themselves
What does, third gender mean?
Third gender refers to a category of people who do not identify as male or female, but rather as neither, both, or a combination of male and female genders.
What does, two-spirited mean?
Indigenous Peoples adopted the term two-spirited to refer to those of an alternate gender.
-“Two-spirit” refers to a person who identifies as having both a masculine and a feminine spirit,
