GEN5 - Mapping the Genome Flashcards
What are the three types of genome maps?
Cytogenetic maps. Genetic maps. Physical maps.
What do genome maps actually show? What can they be used for?
Depends on the type of genome map used. Generally, however relative position of gene, control region, other genomic features.can be used for identifying disease-causing genes and other genomic functions.
What type of genome map provides the lowest and highest amount of detail?
Cytogenetic maps provide least detail. Physical maps provide most detail.
What do genetic maps show and what the key process used for generating genetic maps?
Show the positions of genes or DNA sequence polymorphisms relative to one another. Uses the process of linkage analysis to determine how close two regions are based on their likelihood to become co inherited.
