cosmological observations, means of communication, agricultural practices, hunting and
gathering skills, pottery and herbal practices.

motivated by compassion. H
HUMANISM
depend on science in finding out the truth
about creation. Also, they focus on helping people how to live well and making the
world a better place to live in rather than believing in religious or spiritual matters.
HUMANISM
they consider themselves as the captain of their own ship since
they reject the idea of knowledge revealed to people by God/s or special books.
Moreover, their outmost consideration is the welfare of the people merely aiming
in meeting the needs or wants of people.
Humanism
is a school of thought in which most people find the meaning of their lives
having God as part of it. Theists believed in the concept of heaven. According to
them, we are just passersby of this world, so, union with our Creator is the definitive
goal of our existence, thus, the vital basis of happiness. Simply, theists believed
in life after death.
THEISM
means to be indifferent
APATHEIA
lack of feelings/ emotions/ concern.
APATHY
s another school of thought led by EPICURUS. The stoics espoused
the idea that to acquire happiness, we must learn how to distance oneself and be
apathetic. For the stoics, happiness can only be attained by a careful practice of
apathy. So, they tend to practice apatheia since there are things which are beyond
our control like our current situation, that is, covid 19 pandemic. At first, we educate
ourselves with causes, effects and ways to prevent the virus from infecting us. As
a result of the increasing covid positive cases all over the world, we tend to dwell
on the circumstances that makes us to be anxious. Lack of happiness is
experienced. So, the sooner we realize that this is out of our hands, the better, and
we can have that happiness.
STOICISM
which according to this school of thought, only material entities
matter which was derived from the idea of Democritus and Leucippus that the
world is made up of indivisible units called atomos. In human flourishing, MATTER
is what makes us attain happiness such as when someone tend to buy new clothes
or bags or shoes every payday and such action makes one happy. In short,
material things define their mere existence.
MATERIALISM
is a school of thought led by EPICURUS which the end goal of life is
in acquiring PLEASURE. For the hedonists, it is “Eat, drink and be merry for
tomorrow we die”. For your generation, this is somewhat similar to YOLO (You
Only Live Once).
HEDONISM
declared the GREATEST HAPPINESS PRINCIPLE, that is, an
ACTION is RIGHT as far as it maximizes the attainment of happiness for the greatest
number of people.
John Stuart Mill
