GCSE Foundation Formulas and Equations Flashcards
Area of a rectangle
Length and width can also be thought of as base and height
Area of Parallelogram
Height is always perpendicular to base (meet at 90 angle)
We don’t measure height diagonally
Area of Triangle
Height is always perpendicular to base (meet at 90 angle)
We don’t measure height diagonally
Area of Trapezium
a and b are the pair of parallel sides
Height is always perpendicular to the base
Volume of cube and cuboid
Cubes are the 3D square, so all sides are the same length
Volume of prism
e.g. Cylinder, triangular prism, trapezoid prisms, cuboid, …
Prisms have the same shape cross section though out the shape. So:
- Cylinders have a circle cross section
- Triangular prisms have triangular cross sections
- Trapezoid prisms have trapezium cross sections
Volume of Cylinder
Cross section is a circle so this is a version of volume of a prism
Circumference of Circle
Diameter is double the radius, so you can use 2r instead of d
Area of circle
Make sure you always use the radius.
If you are only given the diameter what must you do?
Pythagoras’ Theorem
a and b are always the two shorter sides and c is always the longest side.
Trigonometric Ratio (equations)
Hypothenuse, H, is always the longest side (opposite the right angle)
Opposite , O, is always opposite the marked angle
Adjacent, A, is always next to the marked angle
Speed, distance, time Triangle
Remember you cover what you are trying to find and read the calculation off the triangle
Density, mass, volume Triangle
Remember you cover what you are trying to find and read the calculation off the triangle
Pressure, force, area Triangle
Remember you cover what you are trying to find and read the calculation off the triangle
