Gcse B1 OCR Flashcards
What is a eukaryotic cell? And give examples
They are more complex and contain a neuclus to store genetic information
animal cells and plant cells
What is a prokaryotic cell?
It is simple and doesn’t contain a nucleus just genetic material stored as plasmid or a long strand of a chromosome
What five things does an animal cell contain?
Nucleus Cytoplasm Partially permeable membrane Mitochondria Ribosomes
What is the Nucleus
Contains genetic material which are arranged into chromosomes
What is cytoplasm
A gel like substance where most chemical reactions occur also contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions
What is a partially permeable membrane
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell
What is the mitochondria
Where aerobic respiration occurs respiration transfers energy that the cell needs to work
What are ribosomes
They are involved in the synthesis of proteins
What are all the things that a plant cell contains
Nucleus cytoplasm mitochondria ribosomes partially panel membrane rigid cell wall large vacuole chloroplasts
What is the plants rigid cell wall made of
Cellulose
What does a plant cells cell wall do
Supports and strengthens the cell
In a plant cell what does a large vacuole do
It contains cell sap which is a weak solution of sugar and salts
What do chloroplasts do
This is where photosynthesis occurs this makes food for the plant. Using the Sun
What is your genome?
All genetic material in an organism
How many chromosomes do humans have
46
23 pairs
