Eyes, Verbal, Motor
Describe the score for Eyes
4 = Spontaneous
3 = Opens to Sound
2 = Opens to Pressure
1 = None
Describe the score for Verbal
5 = Orientated
4 = Confused
3 = Speaks words
2 = Makes sounds
1 = None
Describe the score for Motor
6 = Obey’s commands
5 = Localises to pain
4 = Normal flexion
3 = Abnormal flexion
2 = Extension
1 = None
What would constitute “Normal flexion” (Motor 4)
Normal flexion response
Patient flexes arms rapidly at their elbow to move away from the painful stimulus
What would constitute “Abnormal flexion” (Motor 3)
Involves either;
Adduction of the arm
Internal rotation of the shoulder
Flexion of the elbow
Pronation of the forearm
Wrist flexion (Decorticate posturing)
