What happens in Chapter 1?

• Nick introduces himself as morally superior.
• Goes to Tom and Daisy’s house.
• We find out about Tom’s woman in New York.
• Daisy has a baby, more like a material possession.

• Travel to the Valley of Ashes, Nick and Tom.
• Meet Myrtle.
• Tom breaks Myrtle’s nose.

What happens in Chapter 3?

• Nick goes to Gatsby’s extravagant party.
• Gossip surrounding Gatsby, apparently killed a man.
• Nick meets Gatsby.
• Jordan is called to talk to Gatsby.
• We meet Owl eyes.
• Car crash, drunk driver.

What happens in Chapter 4?

Answer 4

• Nick lists all of the people that attended Gatsby’s parties in the summer.
• Gatsby reveals to Nick his past, but doesn’t seem plausible.
• Meet a stereotyped Jewish man, money not made by honest terms.
• Jordan tells Nick Gatsby is in love with Daisy and wants to see her.
• Nick and Jordan kiss.

What happens in Chapter 5?

• Nick accepts hosting a “reunion”.
• Gatsby extremely nervous, rain+ pathetic fallacy.
• Leaves the house, comes back when Daisy arrives.
• Awkward, imagery of the clock.
• Gatsby becomes more confident, go to his house, Daisy amazed by the materialism.

What happens in Chapter 6?

• We learn about Gatsby’s past in poverty, until he met Dan Cody.
• Nick goes to Gatsby’s house, Tom arrives, Gatsby making Tom jealous.
• Mr Sloane and lady invite them to supper.
• Daisy also attends.
• Famous people , Tom jealous.
• Gatsby wants Daisy to tell Tom she never loved him.
• Nick tells Gatsby you cannot repeat the past.

What happens in Chapter 7?

• The climax of the Great Gatsby.
• Gatsby has let some of his staff go, Daisy comes around often.
• Nick and Gatsby go to Buchanan’s house. Extremely warm weather.
• Baby is out, Daisy showing her off.
• Tom sees Daisy tell Gatsby she loves him.
• Daisy’s voice is full of money.
• Jordan, Nick and Tom in one car, Gatsby and Daisy in another. Go to valley of ashes.
• See Mr Wilson, has found out Myrtle is having an affair. Wants to get away.
• Tom confronts Gatsby about the affair.
• Daisy reluctantly tells Tom she never loved him, but takes it back.
• Daisy runs over Myrtle.
• Tom gives hints it was Gatsby.
• Gatsby tells Nick he’s going to take the blame.

What happened in Chapter 8?

• Nick tells Gatsby to leave or they’ll trace his car, he doesn’t want to leave without Gatsby.
• Jordan and Nick break up.
• Wilson kills Gatsby then kills himself.

What happens in Chapter 9?

• Nick tries to get people to turn up at Gatsby’s funeral; but nobody attends, not even Daisy or Tom.
