Gastrointestinal Drugs Flashcards
These cause the intestine to hold more fluid. This softens stools and helps the bowel move them out. (Examples are: Miralax and Milk of Magnesia)
Osmotic Laxatives
Type of peptic ulcer targeting the stomach, reducing its defensive factors, and occurring for ages 45-55 years.
Gastric Ulcer
t has the same effect as a diet in high fiber and they belong to group 3. It can produce soft-formed stool after 1-3 days of use. (ex. citrocell, Metamucil, fibrocon)
Bulk forming laxatives
An action where PNS release ACh in the gastric mucosa to release gastrin and histamine
Digesting
Refers to the erosion of mucosa exposing the tissue to stomach acid
Peptic Ulcer
What food should be avoided when administering drugs for diarrhea?
FRIED FOODS, MILK, AND SEDATIVES
What should the patient consume to prevent constipation?
High-fiber Diet
It is a drug that is virtually insoluble in water and its actions are primarily limited to the GI tract when taken orally.
Difenoxin
It is used for mild GERD and Dyspepsia
Antacids/Alginates
It is from stomach acidic that neutralizes acidity of chyme
Bicarbonate
Drugs that are mainly used treat peptic ulcer, dyspepsia, and GERD. It inhibits proton pump in the parietal cells.
Proton Pump Inhibitors
Primary organism causing peptic ulcer
H. Pylori
Drugs that are used for GERD, DOC for peptic and duodenal ulcers. These blocks histamine effects and reduces HCL
H2 Receptor Antagonists
Drugs that are used for GERD, DOC for peptic and duodenal ulcers. These blocks histamine effects and reduces HCL
H2 Receptor Antagonists
These are the harshest type of laxatives. They cause the bowel to squeeze or contract to move the stools out. (Examples are: Dulcolax and Senokot)
Stimulant Laxatives
