Complications of obstructive jaundice (5)

A
  1. Infection (Bile infested by aerobic bacteria -> ascending cholangitis)
  2. Renal failure (Too much bilirubin)
  3. Hepatic encephalopathy
  4. Bleeding tendency (fat malabsorption -> reduce vitamin K -> reduce clotting factors)
  5. Thromboembolism (clotting deficiency)

Mx: drainage/hydration/abx/vit K infusion/low dose LMWH

  1. Inflammation (cholecystitis)
