Gastro Medicine - Gastroduodenal artery Flashcards
1
Q
What does the Gastroduodenal artery supply?
A
- Pylorus, proximal part of the duodenum,
- and indirectly to the pancreatic head (via the anterior and posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal arteries)
2
Q
What is the path of the Gastroduodenal Artery?
A
- Most commonly arises from the common hepatic artery of the coeliac trunk
- Terminates by bifurcating into the right gastroepiploic artery and the superior pancreaticoduodenal artery

Q
What are the functions of the 4 layers of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract?
A
- Mucosa:
Can be further subdivided into:
- epithelium
- lamina propria
- muscularis mucosae
- Submucosa:
- Contains Meissner’s (submucosal) plexus -
- primarily secretion and blood flow
- Muscularis externa
- Contains Auerbach’s (myenteric) plexus -
- primarily controls motility of GI smooth muscle
- Serosa / adventitia
- Intraperitoneal = serosa
- Retroperitoneal = adventitia
