Gastro Flashcards
What are the 3 cells in the stomach?
Parietal,chief cells, mucosal neck cells
5 causes of PUD
- Not eating on time
- Stress
- Smoking
- Drinking caffeine
- Drugs
Why does smoking cause ulcers!
It decreases the content of bicarbonate in the pancreatic juice, causing duodenal ulcer because gastric acid can cause autodigestion
What drugs are the cause of PUD
NSAIDs (Ibuprofen & aspirin)
Most common cause of PUD
H. Pylori or helicobacter pylori
What turns into ammonia and protects the H. Pylori
Urease
Peptide hormone produced by mucous in the sphincter and antrum
Gastrin
Peptide hormone produced in the duodenum
Secretin
What stimulates HCI by parietal cells
Gastrin
What stimulates bile production in the liver
Secretin
What stimulates pancreas to release pancreatic juice
Secretin
How many mL of acid does the stomach produce every 24 hrs
2000 - 2400 ml
What protects the inner lining of the stomach
Mucous
What cell is responsible for production of mucus
Mucosal neck cells
What cell produces pepsinogen which then turns into pepsin
Chief cells
Pepsinogen + hydrochloric acid =?
Pepsin
It produces hydrochloric acid and intrinsic factor
Parietal cells
3 types ulcer
Duodenal , esophageal , stomach (DES)
What is back diffusion?
It is when pepsin and HCI from the stomach lumen penetrates the gastric mucosal barrier
What protects to duodenum from the acid in the chyme
Pancreatic juice / bicarbonate
Amylase digests what?
Carbohydrate
Lipase digests what?
Fat
Trypsin digests what?
Proteins
Bicarbonate does what?
Neutralizes stomach acid
