What is the pathophysiology of NSAIDs causing acute gastritis?

A
  1. NSAIDs inhibit cyclo-oxygenase-1
  2. COX-1 is an enzyme responsible for the synthesis of eicosanoids in the stomach
  3. With less eicosanoids this increases the chance of peptic ulcers
  4. With less prostaglandins can lead to gastritis
