Define gastric cancer
A
Tumour in any part of the stomach-usually adenocarcinomas
can be diffuse or intestinal (diffuse is all over-worse prognosis)

Aetiology and risk factors of gastric cancer
A
Few genetic components (HER2/neu), but mainly environmental agression-
HPV, smoked foods, salted foods
Risk factors- Stomach ulcers (HPV) Age, Being non caucasian Perinicous aneamia Male Smoking FHx Low fruit/veggie diet

Epidiemology of gastric cancer
A
Much higher in SEA, Eastern Europe
about 10 per 100000 in UK
decline in western world (mainly US)

Signs and Sx of gastric cancer
A
Vague abdo pain-usually epigastric FLAWS Weight loss (most common PC)
Raised virchows node
Nausea, Dysphagia
20% present with Malena

Investigations for Gastric cancer
A
Endoscopy-any suspected gastric cancer should have a OGD + biopsy
HPV test
Endoscopic ultrasound determines staging
CT/XRAy- metastasis
