Gases - Carbon Dioxide Flashcards
What is the Chemical symbol of Carbon Dioxide?
CO2
What is the specific gravity of Carbon Dioxide?
1.52
What is the characteristics of Carbon Dioxide?
Colourless,
Slight pungent odour,
Soda water taste
Legal limits of Carbon Dioxide are?
LTEL (8hr) - 1.25%,
MEL 3%
Effects of Carbon Dioxide on a person are?
High concentration of CO2 acts as a stimulant on the nervous system, particularly the respiratory control centre of the brain. A rapid increase in breathing commences after this. CO2 is approx. 20 times more soluble in the blood than oxygen & diffusion is rapid.
Why is Carbon Dioxide known as a hot gas?
CO2 is also known as “hot gas” due to it’s insulating properties causing a feeling of warmth.
