Gas Mixtures and Stoich Flashcards
1
Q
What are the general features of gas mixtures?
A
- the behaviour of individual components of mixture can be described using the Ideal Gas Law
- all gases mix perfectly with each other
- each gas in a mixture expands to fill the entire container
2
Q
What is Dalton’s Law?
A
Pressure exerted by a mixture of gases is the sum of the pressures that each gas would exert if it occupied the whole volume alone.
(p = p1 + p2….)
3
Q
How do you calculate partial pressure of a gas in a mixture?
A
Pi = (xi)(p)
Partial pressure = mole fraction of that gas x total pressure
4
Q
What is Gay-Lussac’s Law?
A
The ratio between the volumes of the reactant gases and the gaseous products can be expressed as simple whole numbers
5
Q
How can you calculate the equilibrium pressure constant of a reaction?
A
Kp = [(Pc)^nC][(Pd)^nD] / [(Pa)^nA][(Pb)^nB]
where the pressures are all in bar (100kPa)
