What gases are exchanged?
Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen
What is peak flow?
The top expiratory flow, also referred to as top expiratory flow rate, is a persons maximum speed of expiration, as measured with a top flow meter, a small, hand-held device used to reveal a persons ability to breathe out air. It measures the airflow via the bronchi and thus the diploma of obstruction in the airways
What is lung capacity?
Lung volumes and lung capacities refer to the volume of air in the lungs at different phases of the respiratory cycle. The average total lung capacity of an adult human male is about 6 litres of air.
What is the equation for aerobic respiration?
glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water (+ energy released)
Differences between anaerobic and aerobic respiration?
- Aerobic respiration takes place in presence of oxygen
2. Anaerobic respiration takes place in absence of oxygen
where does gas exchange and respiration take place?
- Gas exchange takes place in the alveoli
2. Respiration takes place in the mitochondria
What affects breathing rates?
injuries, exercise, emotion, mood, as well as a range of medical conditions
What does aerobic respiration produce?
ATP, water and CO2
