Gas exchange Flashcards
What is the difference between inhalation and exhalation?
Inhalation is when oxygen diffuses across the lungs and exhalation is when the diaphragm relaxes and decreases the volume of the lungs.
What structure makes the windpipe stay open?
The cartilage
What body movements force air from the lungs?
Diaphragm relaxes and moves, intercostal muscles relax and move in.
How does the diaphragm help you breath in.
It flattens and contracts
Volume decreases
pressure increases.
Describe and explain what happens when the rubber sheet is pulled down
Balloon would inflate
Pulling rubber sheet down increases volume of jar.
Air rushes into the balloon
Diffusion definition
Movement of molecules
High concentration to low concentration.
