Gametes to pg116 Flashcards
Process of sperm going to egg
unsperms flagellum is powered by the energy from the mitochondria and enters through to the vagina, through uterus.
Passage is assisted by muscluar contarctions of uterus wall. Ovum releases chemicals which attract sperm.
Acrosome head swells, relasing digestive enzymes, breaking down zona pellucida-acrosome reaction. (jelly coating surrounding ovum or egg).
Sperm fuses and penetrates membrane surrounding egg. chemicals are relased, causing zona pellcida to thicken preventing any other sperm from entering-Cortical Reaction.
Sperm nucleus which enters the cell fuses with egg nucleus producing fertilsed zygote
what is a acrosome
type of lysosme which are digestive enzyme filled sacs, found in the cytoplasm of cell.
Ways Female gametes are specialized for their function
Ovum is a large cell which cannot move which is wafted along the oviducts form ovary to uterus by cillaited cells which line tubes and by muscular tubes of the tubes.
Cytoplasm of ovum conatins proteins and lipids reserves for deveopling embryo.
Ovum has zona pellucida which is a jely like coating for protection especially during cortical reaction
Ways Male gametes are specilised for their function
Sperm cell is motile and smaller than an egg cell.
Sperm has a long tail flagellum, powered by energy relased by mitochondira
Has acrosome which contain digestive enzyme that brek down zona pellucida.
