gamete production Flashcards
gamete production in the testes
- where is sperm produced
- what maintains the mobility & viability of sperm
testes produce sperm in the seminiferous tubules and testosterone in the interstitial cells.
The prostate gland and seminal vesicles secretes fluids that maintain the mobility & viability of sperm.
gamete production in the ovaries
the eggs (ova) are produced & matured by the ovaries. The ovaries contain immature ova in various stages of development. Each egg (ovum) is surrounded by follicle which protects the developing ovum and secretes hormones.
fertilisation
mature ovum are released into the oviduct where they may be fertilised by sperm to form a zygote.
fertilisation occurs in the oviduct.
