What were the two aspects of the plan/goals for the Gallipoli Campaign?
To gain control of the Dardanelles strait to ship supplies etc to Russia, because the other route (sea to the north) would get frozen over in winter
To capture the capital of Turkey, Constantinople, to encourage a Balkan rebellion against Germany
Where did they expect to be fighting? Where did they later fight in after being trained in Egypt and why did they change this?
England, to Turkey (Gallipoli) because Turkey had joined Germany in war.

Winston Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty (Navy)
What did they mean by amphibious landing? How exactly was it done?
Means landing by water - transferred from larger ships into lifeboats and then onto shore
Where were the two main Allied landings?
Cape Helles and Anzac Cove
What positive came out of the Gallipoli Campaign?
Even though they didn’t win the legend of the Anzacs was born.
In what 5 ways was the Turkish army more prepared than they expected?
Had trenches, machine guns, barbed wire on the shore, underwater mines, used landforms to their advantage
Why did the maps fail them? Give five examples of what it missed
They were hand drawn on The ships from ground view but couldn’t properly see the trenches, mines, steepness of cliffs, guns, barbed wire.
Where is the Gallipoli Peninsula located?
The left side of the channel.
Where is the Nek located?
North of the bottom of the Gallipoli Peninsula.
Where is Lone Pine located?
The centre of the Gallipoli Peninsula.
Positives and negatives of Gallipoli campaign
Positives: heroism created Anzac spirit
Negative: lost, many soldiers died
