Colicky RUQ pain that radiates to the shoulder and gets worse with fatty foods
What is the treatment for Cholelithiasis?
Elective Cholecystectomy
Ursodeoxycholic Acid for non surgical candidates
What is the pathology for Cholecystitis?
Gallstones in the cystic duct
What does imaging show in Cholecystitis?
Pericholecystic fluid and thickened walls of the Gallbladder
What are the symptoms of Cholecystitis?
Constant RUQ pain with a positive Murphy’s sign and Inflammation
How is Cholelithiasis Dx?
RUQ U/S Gallstones
How is Cholecystitis Dx?
RUQ U/S
HIDA scan if equivocal
How is Cholecystitis treated?
NPO, IVF, No ABX
Urgent Cholecystectomy
Cholecystostomy for poor surgical candidates
What is the cause of Choledocolithiasis?
Gallstones in CBD
What are the symptoms for Choledocolithiasis?
Constant RUQ and Jaundice Positive Murphy sign Inflammation May have pancreatitis May have hepatitis
How is Choledocolithiasis Dx?
RUQ U/S see dilated CBD
USE MRCP if uncertain
What is the treatment for Choledocolithiasis?
NPO, IVF, No ABX
Urgent ERCP or
Cholecystectomy with intraoperative cholangiogram
What is the cause of Cholangitis?
Gallstones in the CBD that causes infection by GNR or anaerobes
